UMW Our Stories: A Living Timeline
Problem: United Methodist Women (UMW) is the largest women's faith-based, social justice advocacy organization. UMW Members belong to units at their local churches. The work with the communities they served kept them busy, but they felt isolated, losing sight of the progress they made collectively within the organization.
Consumer Insight: Insights taken from a third-party research survey detailed how members felt disconnected from the organization's larger, national department. Members knew the impact they were having individually, but they wanted to know how this impact changed the areas of the mission (human trafficking, maternal/reproductive rights, domestic violence, and immigration reform) nationally and worldwide.
Solution: A multi-media storytelling campaign− Our Stories: A Living Timeline−was created to celebrate United Methodist Women members' work. The stories demonstrated how, together and individually, members make a significant impact on the lives of women, children and youth. This engagement campaign generated a sense of great accomplishment in membership. Member stories were shared on Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest and in an offline exhibit at the United Methodist Women's 2014 Assembly.
